The problem: Florida law requires that some child-sex offenders get probation instead of actual time in prison. This means they are still out in the real world with real access to real children. This is because of a portion of the Florida statutes called the "Criminal Punishment Code Score Sheet (section 921.0024)" Basically it is a point system. So if a child-sex offender hasn't been caught before, they have a smaller score. If the police can't find the child being raped on video, the pervert that enjoyed watching the child getting raped has a smaller score. The lower the score, the lower the punishment. But we know PROBATION IS NOT PUNISHMENT.
The solution: A law that would require those who are convicted of sex crimes against children to actually serve the time they deserve and which also tightens the tracking of sexual predators after their release from prison.
Take Action: Contact your State Representative and State Senator. Demand they PROTECT CHILDREN IN REAL LIFE, NOT JUST ON PAPER!! Copy and paste the propsed legislation from below and tell them why you feel it is important to make this law. The more people who demand change, the more chance it will happen. We are continuing to look for sponsors in both houses.
The text of the proposed legislation (Copy and Paste this into your email to your legislators) :
Any person convicted of a sexually motivated crime against a child, including but not limited to possession of child pornography, shall not be subject to the Criminal Punishment Code Score Sheet (921.0024), but shall instead be sentenced to the statutory maximum for the offense.
