Dear Senator Nelson:

My name is Ellen-Beth Fullwood. My daughter was Coralrose Eve Fullwood. She was six years old when she was abducted from my house in the middle of the night. She was later found raped and murdered a few blocks away. This happened September 17, 2006 in North Port, Florida, a sleepy bedroom community just north of Port Charlotte. I have since moved back to Lee County. The murder remains unsolved. As of this time, her only story is that she went to bed and woke up dead. She deserves better. She deserves that the world know what happened to her and that her murderer is bought to justice. Law enforcement holds great hope that the monster that stole her from me and her siblings will be caught. They assure me that the fact that they have found DNA of this waste of good protoplasm means that eventually the connection will be made and a conviction obtained.

That sounded good. The FBI runs CODIS. Soon a match will be made and the case will be solved. Not in real life though. Instead I read in a local newspaper how the FBI has only processed somewhere between 15 and 22 percent of the samples they have obtained since 2001. Add that to the backlog that Florida and the rest of the states face, and it is readily apparent that there is a serious problem. It is quite probable that the person that beat my Coralrose to death after using her for his own sick pleasure has DNA waiting to be processed. If there were no backlog, her case may have been solved by now. More importantly this creature needs to be removed from society before another child is harmed and family destroyed.

I would like to see this issue addressed and corrected. If the Justice Department needs more money, Congress should appropriate it. If it is more trained technicians, then more people should be trained. Whatever it takes, it should be done. For justice and for the future safety of all Americans.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Sincerely,

Ellen-Beth Fullwood
